For the foreseeable future the digimag is being offered free to our valued print subscribers, their family and friends.


How often will Africa Geographic digimag be issued?

Once every two months.


Can I read Africa Geographic digimag offline?

Once you download and save the digimag you can read it offline. However, your experience will be enhanced if you are online and able to follow the external links within its pages.


How many friends can I give access to the digimag?

You can tell as many friends as you like about the digimag. They just need to register with us on this website to download it.


Is there a Mac version of the digimag?

Yes, you can choose to download the PC or Mac version of the digimag once you've logged in.


Can I download Africa Geographic digimag for an Apple iPod, iPhone or iPad?

The Africa Geographic digimag is currently only viewable on PCs and Apple laptops (e.g. MacBooks) and desktop computers (e.g. iMacs). However, we are investigating ways of adapting it to be viewed on other Apple mobile devices.


How do I register?

Registering with us is easy. Simply click the 'Register' link in the top header bar of the page, fill in the form and submit.


I'm having problems logging in and downloading the digimag. How do I do this?

Once you've registered, go to http://www.africageographicdigital.com/.
At the bottom of the screen, type in your email address and password, then click 'Login'.
Click on the DOWNLOAD button to start downloading the PC or Mac version.
When prompted, choose to save the file in an easy-to-find location, such as your desktop, and give the file a recognisable name, such as 'AG digimag 1'.
Click 'Save' - this will take a few minutes depending on the speed of your Internet.
Finally, go to your desktop and find the file labeled 'AG digimag 1'.
Double-click on it (this will extract the .zip file) and then double-click on the new icon that appears. The digimag will open up.




Can I forward my login details (password and email address) to a friend so that they can download the digimag?

It is best to get your friends to register directly with us by coming to this website, this is so that we can send Africa Geographic digimag updates directly to them.


Can I download previous issues of the digimag?

Yes, once you've logged in you will find a list of previous issues, which you can download, at the bottom of the screen.


What is my password?

You will need to register as a new user before your login information will be recognised on the website. To do so, click on the 'Register' button in the top header bar of the page, fill in the form and submit. An email will be sent to you confirming your username and password.


What specific internet requirement do I need to download Africa Geographic digimag?

Some form of high-speed (broadband) access such as ADSL or 3G. Unfortunately dial-up internet will time-out and therefore will be unable to complete the download. We apologise but it's not in our hands.

How big is the Africa Geographic digimag file and how long will it take to download?

30-40 megabytes and the length of time to download will vary with your internet's connection speed.

In South Africa
3G and other broadband products will download the digimag in about 2 minutes
ADSL will take 12-20 minutes, depending on the speed of your connection

Rest of the world
30 seconds to 10 minutes, depending on the speed of your connection




I have downloaded the digimag, but now I can't open it because it's a .zip file. What should I do?

Most systems have a built-in ZIP extraction application, but some PC users may need to extract the digimag manually before launching it. WINZIP is recommended for this and you can use their evaluation version for extracting files. Once extracted, the digimag will launch with a double-click.

Alternatively, there are a number of excellent freeware applications you can use for ZIP extraction. 7-Zip is an open-source ZIP extraction application that is free to download and use.
